Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS)

Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) under the aegis of the Ministry of Scheduled Caste Development Department, Government of Telangana has been working with the noble aim of providing quality education to the needy and deprived Scheduled Caste (SC) children on par with the other advantaged children. The TSWREIS has been sculpting thousands of marginalized boys and girls into outstanding personalities over the last three decades. Our students have brought laurels in academics by getting selected to the prestigious medical colleges, IITs, NITs, Central universities and other national and international institutions of higher learning. In the field of sports, the TSWREIS students scripted history by securing national and international medals and titles in yoga, athletics, chess, sailing, cricket, hand ball, etc. In Telangana, there are 268 social welfare residential institutions (from 5th standard to Undergraduate level) for SC children. The medium of instruction is English and more than 120000 children are currently pursuing studies. The Society is committed for overall social, physical and emotional well-being of the students.

A large number of marginalized students have been dropping out from higher education in spite of having an intense desire to pursue higher studies to advance their career opportunities. Unemployment and poverty rates are exceptionally high among these students and were deprived of self-employment opportunities. As a consequence, they are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty and underdevelopment and are finding it difficult to sustain themselves and their families.

In view of this, the TSWREIS has introduced a payback to society movement called ‘Swaeroes Network’. The Swaeroes Network has been working actively in an endeavor to increase school and college enrollment rates among poor boys and girls, and making earnest efforts to liberate poor communities from economic deprivation and underdevelopment. The Swaeroes network also conducts capacity building programmes and provides employment opportunities.

Malavath Poorna

A 13-year-old tribal tenacious student of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), created a spine-tingling history on 25th May, 2014 by becoming the youngest girl in the world to scale the Mount Everest. Poorna, the daughter of tribal farm laborers reached the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest against all odds. She also scaled the Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt. Elbrus, the Europe’s highest mountain peak.

The unbelievable adventure propelled her to national and international stardom. The honourable Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Telangana congratulated Poorna for her remarkable feats.

Rahul Bose from Bollywood has produced movie titled ‘Poorna- Courage Has No Limit’ (Hindi version) based on the true life story of Poorna. The movie has received rave reviews from the noted film critics of India. The honorable President of India, Sri Pranab Mukherjee watched the ‘Poorna movie and appreciated the team for producing one of the most inspirational biopic films ever in the country. Poorna’s life is a source of inspiration to millions of marginalized girls in India. Poorna deserves top honours for achieving the impossible even in the face of adversity and abject poverty. Poorna proved to the world that if opportunities are provided, girls from poor marginalized family background can achieve anything under the sky.

The overall objective of the ‘Fly for a Cause’ is to promote education of girls hailing from the underprivileged sections of the society.

  • Ensuring education of girls from the deprived sections of society
  • Increasing enrolment of girls in schools, colleges and universities and thereby reducing dropout rates among the girls
